My Story
About Connie Park & Healing Touch Reiki, LLC

I like to think that my best qualities are compassion and empathy for others. Having experienced both loss and emotional pain in my life, I have a heart for people who suffer physical, mental or emotional pain. I know that most people will deal with challenging and painful issues (we all will suffer loss), and my greatest wish is to offer a light in the darkness at these times. I have received Reiki from numerous practitioners, then went on to study it and become certified myself. There are also other tools that can help convert pain and suffering into something positive, and this will be the focus of my blog that is part of this website.

Climbing the ladder in a succession of jobs in my career, among other businesses I have worked at the Prosecutor’s Office, Thompsons (parent company of the Advocate), and was Office Manager at a local CPA firm for eight years. I eventually accepted a position at Denison, where I worked for 30 years in the Admissions Office before retiring from there.

I welcome the opportunity to engage with Denison students as I feel that I well understand their stressors, and would like to offer a tool to ease their stress. I also would love to engage with Denison alumni (a group I closely worked with), staff and parents as well.

While at Denison, I was elected to serve on several committees, most with a three-year term, and one where I served as Treasurer.  Members were hand-picked for the last committee I served on, which was a component of HR and reported directly to the President. This committee was the “eyes and ears of campus” and had an indefinite term (in my case, 7 years until retirement). One of the many accomplishments of this committee was to begin a Mentorship Program at Denison, in which I took part to successfully mentor two newer Denison employees. At Denison, I further learned the values of teamwork, mentorship and collaboration.

I enjoy both reading and writing, and have published the first two books of a children's series.  The main character, a naughty but lovable child, is based upon stories that were handed down in my family. The hope is to keep these stories alive for generations to come. You can order these books (and have them personalized) at oldbadsally.com or on Amazon.

My next efforts at writing will be a Blog which will be attached to this website, and will touch upon Reiki and things that are motivational, spiritual or healing in nature. I want this to be a site offering positivity and easy, usable ideas to enrich life.  I also would like to build a community here for discussion and ideas.

After 12 years of a traditional Catholic schooling, I am interested in other religions, cultures and spiritual practices. I value and am thankful for my upbringing, knowing that my parents sacrificed a lot for it (instead of travel or material things, their kids went to Catholic school). At the same time, I have been open to additional ideas to promote spirituality. I do note that Reiki is not a religion and has no dogma.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Reiki?
Reiki is a Japanese energy healing technique often used for stress reduction and relaxation. It was created by Dr. Mikao Usui in March 1922. Many people regard it as a form of complementary or alternative healthcare. It’s administered by “laying on hands” which has been an ongoing practice for thousands of years.

What happens during a Reiki session?
Most Reiki sessions can be as little as 30 minutes or as long as 90 minutes. When you have your first appointment, you’ll meet with your Reiki practitioner who will talk about the process and what you can expect. You’ll want to let them know about any symptoms you want to address or if there are any places on your body you’d like for them to focus on. Then they’ll begin to move their hands around your body and may lightly touch you. Whereas you would typically become undressed for a massage session, you keep your clothes on during a Reiki session.

Are there any risks or side effects?
Reiki is a safe and non-invasive form of therapy. There have not been any documented harmful side effects. However, people with a trauma history might feel uncomfortable laying down quietly in a dim room with someone close to them.

What does Reiki feel like?
Although this will vary from person to person, most people feel a state of deep relaxation and/or a heightened state of consciousness. Some people might see colors or have visions while others may not see/feel anything at all. If you continue to have Reiki sessions on a consistent basis, then your experiences might become deeper.

Is Reiki a religion?
Although Reiki is spiritual in nature, it is not a religion and does not conflict with religious beliefs. Followers of different faiths have practiced Reiki and find that it enhances their religious experience.
